Kimpton Lorien Hotel & Spa Completes Dream Inspired Redesign

Located in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia, the Kimpton Lorien Hotel & Spa recently completed a $2.51-million redesign of multiple areas at the property.  MONOGRAM Hospitality Interiors led design efforts for renovation of the hotel’s guestrooms, suites, and corridors. The project has been featured in multiple press outlets, offering a great perspective on unique elements featured within the hotel’s redesign and newly revamped guest offerings.

The design inspiration was derived from the name of the hotel – Lorien was the mythical God of Dreams. The goal was to create a soft ethereal color palette to promote a relaxing spa-like Guest experience.   The custom corridor carpets are an abstracted cloud pattern representing the notion of walking on clouds to your sleep experience.  Molding trims were added to accent areas in the corridors in order to pay homage to the classic architectural style of the building.  Traditional accents are offset by the modern splatter artwork expressions and new sculptural decorative lighting.

The 107 guestrooms and suites carry a fresh white on white palette featuring a bleached wood headboard and white asymmetrical modern nightstands.  The focal point of the room is a large Rorschach-inspired artwork created over ombré wallcovering at the headboard wall that invites curiosity and personal interpretation.  Accent colors of blue, green and gray are layered minimally to balance the white-on-white room.  Technological improvements were made for greater guest convenience and better sources of lighting improvements made the rooms and parlors more functional for work-related activities.
